The Virgin Islands

Itinerary: U.S. & British Virgin Islands
The Crew of Irie As you arrive at beef island airport your captain will assist you with your luggage and customs formalities. Your yacht lies at anchor in nearby trellis bay. This is literally a 2 minute walk from the airport. Your chef, welcomes you aboard with a cool drink. Sit back and relax, let the aromas of a fine lunch cooking surround you. This meal and a good wine gives a suitable introduction to the gourmet delights served aboard.

Take off your watch, you are now in a world tailored just for you, where time is of a different order and life runs at the pace you set.

A short sail away lies lee bay, our destination for the evening. Lee bay is an idyllic setting for a candle lit dinner below a tableau of stars. Next morning after breakfast we take a hike through native bush to cam bay across a short isthmus on great camanoe island. This island is full of local bird life, flora and fauna untouched by the influence of man. Huge aloe plants litter our path providing a home for an abundance of lizards, birds and hermit crabs.

Later, to cool off, snorkel in the crystal clear waters. The variety of fish here, below the waters is amazing. Look out for the different parrot fish, spotted drums, cleaner shrimp, angels and many others. Your yacht is fully equipped with snorkel gear and her crew are experienced instructors. There is also a marine library aboard to help you put a name to your findings. After lunch, we sail to monkey point on guana island for another snorkel or laze on the beach. Choose from one of two beaches here, either a thousand yards of soft fine white sand or a gem, just big enough for two, backed by cliffs with pelicans diving around.

Jost van dyke is our next island, home of the indomitable foxy. Relax with a painkiller and listen to island calypso on foxy’s guitar.

Aboard dinner is being prepared for you. Meals aboard are tailored exactly your requests by your own professional chef. Eat below in a formal setting lit by candlelight, or if you prefer, above decks in the spacious cockpit under the stars. Take your time over dinner, savor and enjoy its flavors, let the atmosphere surround and envelop you.

A glorious reach under full sail takes us in to west end, tortola, home of pussers, the famous rum company and the yards that repair old wooden schooners and yachts. A fascinating sight for young and old here are the old brigantines and square riggers mixed in with the modern classics like rob roy. Ashore next to pussers, painted in a mix of caribbean pastels are boutiques and craft shops, just a few, this is not a place geared to quantity tourism.

Our next sail is across the sir francis drake channel to norman island. Here we set the anchor at treasure point under the cliffs to snorkel and swim with the friendly fish at the caves. The yellow striped sergeant majors swarm all around you in the water. Swim in and out of caves as the sun, low in the sky, shoots colors all over the coral and rocks. A magical place, this is where robert louis stevenson’s treasure island was based. Just around the corner lies the bight, our harbor for the evening. This is where the pirate ships of days gone by used to rest and lick their wounds before going out to raid the galleons made heavy with the riches of the spanish new world. Full of atmosphere, breathe deep and you almost smell the tarred marlin and hear the cries from the rigging of days gone by. The bight is a calm and comfortable place to eat dinner looking over to the distant lights of tortola.

Great harbor, peter island, provides a perfect place to learn watersports. Your crew will be happy to teach you.

A sojourn in peter island, soaking in the sounds of silence, the picturesque palm trees and sipping a cool drink, you can look forward to another splendid dinner. A reach across the channel next morning, take the helm and feel the power of your yacht, charging beneath your feet. Your captain will be happy to show you how to trim the sails and get the best out of the boat, he is an experienced sailor and navigator and also a fine instructor.

Road town is the main center and port of the british virgin islands. We stop here for lunch and a look around ashore. Tortolans are friendly people who respond well to politeness and courtesy. Their island is an oasis in a modern world still relatively untouched by crime or pollution. Ashore is the sunny caribbe spice shop and another pussers company store, almost a museum with paintings and artifacts celebrating a history of nautical splendor.

That afternoon we set sail to cooper island, our stop for the evening. Anchored in manchioneel bay, off a beautiful white sand beach, enjoy dinner by moonlight with perhaps one of our homemade desserts. After breakfast we sail to the baths on virgin gorda.

These are vast boulders thrown by an ancient hand liberally across the land and sea. They form caves and walkways with magnificent rock pools to play and snorkel in. This area abounds with gorgeous beaches lined with pristine white sand and clean crystal clear blue waters. Past spanish town right to the end of virgin gorda, our next sail takes us into the north sound. This is the home of the bitter end yacht club and biras creek. Acres and acres of protected waters, it is an ideal place to hone your watersports skills or snorkel among the old cannons and anchors on the eustatia reef.

Anegada, the sunken island, is the last island we visit on this cruise of the virgin islands. It lies 12 miles away on a superb reach across shallow blue waters. The perfect opportunity to watch out for whales and dolphins. On arrival, relax or swim and snorkel, all alone at loblolly bay, enjoy the simple island way of life before sailing back, next morning to trellis bay, tortola and your waiting flight.
