Berry Islands

The Berry Island Yacht Charters. The Berry Islands lie just 40 miles north of Nassau and are noted for their clear waters, beautiful colors, excellent snorkeling and deserted white beaches.   The fishing is good and so is the diving.      Chub Cay welcomes you to the Berry Islands with a surge free marina that offers the best of both worlds:   modern comfort and out island living.  All sections of the Chub Cay club are now open to visiting yachtsmen and marina guests.  This includes a swimming pool overlooking the beach, in addition to the pool at the docks.  There is also a very nice tennis court.  The atmosphere and setting are quiet, the mood is that of relaxation and island informality.      The marina serves as a base to explore this island and the waters and islands beyond.  Within walking distance of the docks are two beaches, one several miles long.  Visitors enjoy snorkeling from either beach, especially the one along the southern side with ledges and coral heads offshore.  Enjoy long walks along the roads, listening to the wind in the Casuarina trees and surf in the background.  The bicycles rented from the office allow quicker exploration.  At the northern end, the roads stop and the land fades into miles of sand flats and small islands.  Here you are especially reminded that Chub even with all its amenities is really an outpost in a beautiful wilderness.       The 30 small islands that make up the Berry Islands sit atop the Great Bahama Bank.   Between Chub Cay and the northwest channel buoy the nature lover will find a variety of shallow and deep water reefs alive with conch, lobster, hog snapper, grouper and other fine food fish.  Remember, licenses are required and you should take no more than you can eat.      Five hundred people live in the Berry Islands, most of them based on Great Harbor Cay where yachtsmen will find a fuel station, stores and a clinic.  Between great stirrup Cay in the north and Chub Cay in the south are several island homes which , for the owners, are the resolution of some life long yearning.  There, the only neighbors are pelicans and terns that nest on the wind swept cays.  Swim, snorkel and picnic on the wide white sandy beaches, fringed with palm and pine, that Great Harbor Cay is famous for.   Or dive in the magnificent fish bowl of the Berrys.   [Top Of Page] [New Destination] [New Bahamas Destination]
