|The Bahamas - Exumas|
| The Exumas Yacht Charters. Exuma is a chain of 365 islands whose capital city is George Town. Snorkelers and divers can explore The Exuma National Land and Sea Park to the north, a vast underwater preserve with coral reefs, drop-offs and interesting marine life. Of special interest is the Thunderball Grotto, an area near Staniel Cay, where the famous James Bond Movie was filmed.
On the fabulous Yacht Starship, Captain Mark Elliot prefers the Bahamas to other areas. As Mark puts it, "in the Bahamas, there are thousands of islands with no footprints and at most, maybe one or two other boats in the anchorage."
For Mark a typical Bahamas charter would start with the guests flying in to Nassau. Most of the larger island cities have regular commercial air service and many of the smaller islands have strips accessible by charter flight. Flying eliminates the long and often bumpy ride across the Gulf Stream.
From Nassau, where Starship waits at the Famous Hurricane Hole Marina and Resort, Mark most often heads to the Exumas where he ducks into some very secluded (and still secret) coves. The next stop is Staniel Cay, which offers a range of attractions and activities from swimming admits the thousands of fish in Thunderball Grotto to enjoying a quiet dinner at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club.
After several days playing in the secluded waters around Staniel and Sampson, George Town, Great Exuma is often Mark's next stop. The Sponge Bar is the place to see and be seen, with regular sightings of visiting celebrities ranging from Prince Charles to Jimmy Buffet enjoying the twice weekly cocktail parties. The Club Peace and Plenty is the Hotel of first choice by visiting yachtsmen, it is located right in the middle of town yet has a strip of beachfront from which it runs a twice daily ferry service across the bay to Stocking Island. Stocking Island is remarkable for its snowy white beaches on one side, wave pounded rocks on the other, and an underwater cave halfway in between.
