Richard Friedman served as cook and engineer aboard a commercial fishing boat in Alaska starting in 1972 and the next ten years fishing on the Pacific from Santa Barbara to the Bering Sea.
In 1994 he purchased Explorer and chartered her out of Mystic Ct. His first summer chartering in Alaska was the summer of 1996. He is a great guide to the Alaska scene, bird watcher, amateur naturalist and eager photographer. Join Explorer with Richard in Alaska and you will have the time of your life.
As some recent guests wrote "as soon as I sat down at the computer to write this I realized that I wanted to be back in Alaska. The trip was fantastic...Richard did a great job in making all aspects of our voyage a most pleasurable experience. The main cabins were charming and the salon with its large windows was a delight. We were able to be protected from the elements, as infrequent as they were and not miss one second of the spectacular sights as we or they floated by. Pat is a superb chef. We have experienced some extraordinary cuisine on our various charters but his was equal in quality to the best and past them in variety."
And another guest wrote: "the explorer lived up to its name. We saw glaciers, whales, sea lions, dolphins, bears, bald eagles, and great scenery. What more could you ask for? But on top of that the Explorer provided fantastic cuisine and a warm friendly environment."
Most recently Pat Brown, a Montana native with over twenty years experience as an executive chef has been cook in Explorer. He is an avid outdoors man and has worked seasonably as a white water river guide and wilderness horse guide in the southwest since 1983. Pat served four years in the U.S. Navy as Yeoman Second Class on board Polaris submarines. Pat's congenial nature and experience in cooking and the hospitality business assure every guest on Explorer will be well fed and pampered during their cruise.
Explorer is a 60 foot motor yacht with crew of two. They offer guests 2 cabins with queen berths each and one cabin with two singles. Each cabin has a private bath. Then the crew have separate quarters.
