St. Vincent Yacht Charters. This route through the islands is just plain old West Indian friendliness and simple hospitality without the sophistication of the larger islands. An excellent embarkation point is the young island cut on the south shore of St. Vincent. It is only a five minute taxi ride from the airport and there are several restaurants nearby. It is a short run of 9 miles to the island of Bequia where you will anchor in 12 feet of water in front of the pretty Frangipani Hotel.
A morning stroll through Admiralty Bay, a cup of coffee by the boatyard where Bob Dylan had his schooner built, a visit to the silk-screening studios at the Crab Hole, a beer at the Green Boley Bar, spend the morning how you will. In the afternoon sail past The Moonhole between Pigeon Island and Isle Quatre to fetch up round the Montezuma shoal and pick up a mooring in front of Basil's Bar on the star studded island of Mustique. It can be a rough sail if the wind is out of the east. The retreats of Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Rachel Welch and Princess Margaret can be seen from horseback as the tropical sun sinks in the west with a flash of green and the promise of another incredible day.
In the morning heave away for the south to enter the playground of the Tobago Cays. Enjoy snorkeling in 4 feet of clear water, a natural aquarium surrounded by hundreds of inquisitive muti-colored tropical fish; a coral garden. After dinner, a drink on deck as you hear the waters of the open Atlantic thunder over the natural breakwaters of the reefs.
You weave your way through the coral of the southern pass to lunch at Palm Island only 7 miles away and swim at Casuarina Beach, one of the most beautiful in the islands. Then, on to PSV, an exotic private resort island where the guests are welcomed ashore to dine or enjoy that special aperitif from the superbly situated lounge at the hotel.
Next day off to lunch behind Sandy Island, Carriacou only about 6 miles away. Snorkeling after lunch over a huge piece of Brain Coral reckoned to be over a thousand years old. A short sail to Tyrell Bay for a rum punch ashore and visit to the studio of artist Canute Calliste.
Watch the schooners being built by eye on the beach, take an island tour, visit the mangrove swamp for oysters or just relax. And then a short sail of under two hours to Union and your flight to the international airport of your choice. Good bye until next year.
